The Superior Court of Los Angeles County’s Judicial Mentor Program has opened registration for its next virtual workshop, “Cross the Judicial Application Finish Line with Lunchtime Mentorship.” Scheduled from noon to 1:30 p.m. on April 16, this virtual workshop is a great opportunity for attorneys and commissioners in Los Angeles County interested in exploring a career on the bench to hear first-hand accounts from judges and other officials on the judicial appointments process.

“The strength of the judiciary rests on the active participation of talented, diverse legal professionals who aspire towards and attain a career on the bench,” Presiding Judge Sergio C. Tapia II said. “This unique and invaluable workshop opportunity provides interested legal practitioners with insight on how to navigate and complete the judicial application process, with first-hand accounts from judicial leaders and judicial mentors across the judicial system. Participants will also gain perspective from Mr. Luis Céspedes, Governor Newsom’s Judicial Appointments Secretary, on the judicial appointments process.”
Following opening remarks by Presiding Judge Sergio C. Tapia II, the workshop will feature a 15-minute question-and-answer session with Secretary Luis Céspedes and Justice Helen Zukin about the judicial appointments process. Afterwards, the program will host a judicial mentorship breakout session where Judicial Mentor Program judges will work with participants to familiarize them with the personal data questionnaire (PDQ) and answer any general questions they may have. The breakout sessions provide an invaluable opportunity for participants to directly access real-time mentorship from a sitting bench officer.
