The Superior Court of Los Angeles County is launching a pilot program to provide Mandatory Settlement Conferences on the day of trial in Unlawful Detainer actions. The training will be facilitated by Judge Lawrence H. Cho and Judge Jerry Marshak, with an introduction by Judge Karen Ackerson Gauff, Chair of the Temporary Judge Committee. The training will be held virtually via Microsoft Teams as detailed below:

This training covers an overview of the unlawful detainer litigation and how to conduct Unlawful Detainer Mandatory Settlement Conferences. Completion is required to hear UD MSC Settlement Conferences. MCLE credit is provided for this training. Reservations may be completed online at this link. Please RSVP no later than September 12, 2025. An attorney interested in becoming a new Temporary Judge and participating in this program must meet the following requirements:
▪ Be a member in good standing of the State Bar of California for 10 years.
▪ Submit an application to serve as a temporary judge and an addendum application to serve as a temporary judge for the UD MSC Program.
▪ Attend the in-person Bench Conduct and Demeanor Training on October 21, 2025.
▪ Attend the virtual UD MSC training on September 16, 2025; and
▪ Complete three hours of online training in Judicial Ethics for Temporary Judges
