The Superior Court of Los Angeles County invites civic-minded residents to apply for the 2026-27 Civil Grand Jury. The Civil Grand Jury offers a unique opportunity to examine the work of various county government agencies within Los Angeles County and contribute to greater transparency and accountability. Civil grand jurors receive in-depth training and briefings before engaging in reviews that may extend over several weeks or months. No prior jury service or investigative background is needed—just a commitment to public service. Applications are due by Nov. 1, 2025.
Qualified applicants must be:
- U.S. citizens, 18 years of age or older.
- Able to read and speak English.
- Los Angeles County residents for at least one year.
How to Apply:
To apply, simply complete the Court’s Grand Jury Application. Once completed, please email the completed form to grandjury@lacourt.org or send the completed form via U.S. mail to the following address:
Superior Court of Los Angeles County
Grand Jury Administration
222 S. Hill St., Suite 670

The Court’s Juror Services Division coordinates the application process. Applicants who complete interviews and are found to be qualified become finalists eligible for service on the Civil Grand Jury. In the Spring of 2026, 23 citizens will be randomly selected from this group to serve on the 2026-27 Civil Grand Jury.
Those selected will receive training to investigate county, city and joint-powers agencies. Their one-year term runs from July 1, 2026, to June 30, 2027, culminating in a final report with findings and recommendations.
Past civil grand jury members have noted that their primary motivation was serving the public and performing their civic duty. Many also described the experience as engaging, meaningful, and personally satisfying.
Civil grand jurors typically devote 30-40 hours per week to their work, meeting most days at 222 S. Hill St. in downtown Los Angeles. Civil grand jurors receive $80 per day in compensation, along with mileage reimbursement.
