The Superior Court of Los Angeles County's Court Commons will host its first free Community Self-Help Workshop at Discovery Cube Los Angeles on Feb. 7, 2026. A key part of the Court’s 2025-28 Strategic Plan , this first community workshop hosted by Court Commons marks the beginning of a new series of quarterly educational workshops designed to inform and empower the community on key legal topics through meaningful community engagement.
“Court Commons brings justice to the heart of our communities by meeting people where they are, fostering transparency, and creating spaces for dialogue and understanding,” Presiding Judge Sergio C. Tapia II said. “We are excited to launch our first quarterly educational workshop and hope to bring Court Commons to other communities in the months ahead.”
Each workshop session will include an informational presentation followed by a Q&A, offering attendees without attorneys direct access to legal experts and resources. The workshops will be led by the Court’s Self-Help Center staff and legal aid staff, who will provide general information and educational assistance on a variety of common legal issues, including:
Unlawful Detainers (Evictions)
- Promote awareness of tenant and landlord rights and responsibilities.
- Empower individuals to resolve disputes fairly.
Expungements
- Empower individuals to clear criminal records.
- Reduce barriers to employment, housing, and education.
- Promote rehabilitation and access to justice.
- Provide on-site assistance with petitions for expungements.
Civil Harassment, Domestic Violence & Elder Abuse Restraining Orders
- Arm the public with knowledge of legal protections.
- Promote safety and proper legal procedures to facilitate access to justice.
CARE Court
- Explain CARE Court eligibility and the petition process.
- Clarify the role of supporters and available services.
- Connect attendees with Self-Help and Department of Mental Health resources.
Court Commons will visit the Discovery Cube Los Angeles on the following date:

In addition to this upcoming visit, Court Commons will host quarterly workshops across Los Angeles County, including planned visits to the Compton area in June, downtown Los Angeles in July, and the Antelope Valley in November. Specific times and locations will be announced at a future date on the Court Commons website.
Designed over a span of two years, Court Commons is a modular, pop-up exhibition created to inform, engage, and empower communities to learn more about the Court and the judicial system. Housed in a custom-built trailer that expands into 2,000 square feet of exhibition space, Court Commons brings the Court’s mission, services, and personnel directly to the public, promoting transparency, inspiring confidence, and expanding access to justice.
“Through innovative outreach and data-driven design, Court Commons builds trust by making justice transparent, accessible, and centered on the people it serves,” Executive Officer/Clerk of Court David W. Slayton said. “The Court is always looking for new ways to connect with the community and the people it serves”.
