Summary

This program explores key updates in the new tax law, including both obvious and less apparent planning opportunities, as well as areas of ambiguity. Topics to include the following (time permitting): estate planning: with the $15M exclusion made permanent, what should HNW clients do now? Status of major TCJA provisions: individual rates, standard deduction, 199A, SALT cap. Charitable deduction: new hoops to jump through; expensing and bonus depreciation: back, and better; other rules specific to real estate: 163(j), 461(l), home mortgage interest; business meals starting in 2026; Changes to QSBS and QOZs; tax reporting forms: higher thresholds; tax considerations for gambling; tax considerations for undocumented residents; the blooper reel (i.e. drafting done in haste): state declared disasters; semiconductor factories; scholarship granting organizations; contiguous QOZs; university excise tax; and corporate contributions to Trump accounts.
